When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you normally set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific company. On their end, 3 records are set up automatically as soon as the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain name where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that handles the emails for that particular domain. The website and the e-mail hosting are generally considered to be one thing, when they are in fact two different services. Having separate records for them will enable you to have them with different providers if you want. For example, some new service provider might have outstanding uptime for your website, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain to the first and MX records to have the emails with the second, you will get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you want to open a website or send an email - in either case, the service provider whose name servers are used for the domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed website or your e-mail will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each and every Linux cloud hosting package we offer you, will permit you to see, change and create A and MX records for every domain or subdomain inside your account. Through the DNS Records section, you'll be able to view a list of all hosts within the account in alphabetical order with their related records, so any update is not going to take you more than a few clicks. Setting up new records is equally easy if, for instance, you would like to use the email services of a different provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default two. You may also set the priority for each MX record by setting different latency. In other words, when your emails are delivered, the sending server will contact the record with the smallest latency first and in case the connection times out, it is going to contact the next one. With our advanced tool, you're going to be able to control the records of your domain names and subdomains effortlessly even if you have no prior experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any one of your domains or subdomains is very easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan through us. The accounts are maintained via our in-house built Hepsia CP, which features a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain addresses. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you can click on any one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as simple as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any issues if you wish to move your site or e-mails to an alternative company while keeping the second service with our company. When needed, you could also create additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the recommendations of the new provider.
